St. Mary’s Bank Puts More Chromebooks in the Classroom at Manchester Middle School

Posted On 1/22/2020
MANCHESTER, NH (January 22, 2020) — St. Mary’s Bank, the nation’s first credit union, recently donated $5,000 to McLaughlin Middle School in Manchester for the purchase of 25 Chromebooks.

“With St. Mary’s Bank’s help, more of our students have access to technology than ever before,” said Dave Elliot, family and consumer sciences teacher at McLaughlin Middle School. “The benefits of using computers in the classroom are many. Not only are students more engaged in the curriculum, but they are learning basic skills like typing that will serve them well beyond their school years.”

“Supporting youth and education has always been a priority for St. Mary’s Bank,” said Ron Covey, St. Mary’s Bank President and CEO. “We are thrilled to be able to provide the students of McLaughlin Middle School with the tools they need to succeed now and in the future.”

Over 500 students will have access to the Chromebooks throughout the year. Students taking Elliot’s class have already begun using the computers to create resumes, research careers, and participate in food and nutrition lessons. Other classes and school clubs will incorporate the use of Chromebooks in teaching health and wellness, recording and editing audio and video, and even designing a nature trail.
“Before St. Mary’s Bank’s donation, the school had a limited number of shared computers,” said Elliot. “It is remarkable that every student in my class now has a computer to use.”
