MANCHESTER, NH – What do the Model T, Tupperware, the M&M, and the New Hampshire Lottery have in common? They were all invented during or after 1908 – and St. Mary’s Bank has seen the birth of them all.

St. Mary’s Bank made history 100 years ago when it opened as the first credit union in the nation. As part of its year-long anniversary celebration, the credit union has created a special Web site, www.stmarysbank.com/100years. The micro-site features a timeline that chronicles its own story and highlights other great firsts in American history. The new site also offers details of the many events and giveaways the credit union is sponsoring throughout 2008.

“St. Mary’s Bank is celebrating a historic milestone, while embracing the possibilities of the future,” said Marketing Director Elizabeth Stodolski. “This new micro-site is one of the ways in which we can connect the past with the present. It’s a fun site to visit and will give you a glimpse into what we have planned for the rest of the year.”

St. Mary’s Bank was founded in 1908. “Back then, we kept records using pen and paper,” said Stodolski. “Now we’re about to introduce mobile banking services that allow members to check balances and make transfers right from their cell phones. It’s amazing how far technology has come, and how we’ve been able to take advantage of it to improve our services and offer more conveniences.” The credit union is set to launch the new service in the spring.

The micro-site offers anniversary news, a section where you can watch the credit union’s new ads and listen to its 2008 theme song, “The Place Where You Belong,” a section where members can tell their own St. Mary’s Bank story, and a timeline highlighting some of the important events in the history of the nation and St. Mary’s Bank during the past 100 years (it’s where you’ll find out what year the M&M was invented).

“In the last 100 years, much has happened within our institution and around the world. But we remain close to our roots in every sense. You’ll still find St. Mary’s Bank very near the first office we ever had on the West Side of Manchester,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Ronald J. Rioux. “Most important, we have the same ideals the led us to make history in 1908. We’re still committed to local families and businesses, and we’re still dedicated to helping the communities we serve thrive.”
