St. Mary’s Gives $3,200 to New Horizons Soup Kitchen and Shelter

MANCHESTER, NH— St. Mary’s Bank announced it recently donated $3,200 to New Horizons For New Hampshire, Inc. in Manchester to help fund a computer based volunteer and donation kiosk. The new system will allow New Horizons to more effectively and efficiently track volunteers and donations which will increase productivity and improve the overall operations of delivering services to the needy.

Located at 199 Manchester Street, New Horizons is an adult shelter, food pantry and soup kitchen that provides food and shelter to people in need and offers supportive services to help them achieve self sufficiency.

“New Horizons plays an important role in serving the under-served of Manchester and its surrounding communities,” said Tom Champagne, Director of Community Outreach at St. Mary’s Bank. “St. Mary’s is pleased to help them put organizational tools in place that will enable their operations to run smoothly and in turn allow them to continue providing support to those in need.”

Last year New Horizons distributed 15,393 bags of groceries to an average of 800 families per month, the soup kitchen served 70,435 meals and the emergency shelters provided an average of 71 people a warm safe place to stay each night. To keep track of all donations and volunteers, St. Mary’s gift would specifically help the organization install a touch-screen welcoming station—complete with software and programming to increase productivity by immediately collecting this information from donors.

“New Horizons depends on dedicated volunteers who serve over 200 meals daily as well as collect and distribute food and donated items in our food pantry,” said Nancy Comai, New Horizons Development Director. “Volunteers generally serve over 25,000 hours annually, so it’s important to have an automated data collection system that helps us to streamline our records. We’re grateful to St. Mary’s for this donation, as it will increase the effectiveness of our operations.”
