St. Mary’s Bank Receives United Way Award for Workplace Campaign

Posted On 3/4/2011
Manchester, NH - St. Mary’s Bank recently received a GIVE Award from the Granite United Way for raising nearly $50K through its 2010 workplace campaign. Employee contributions accounted for an impressive 68% of the total.

“Like St. Mary’s Bank, Granite United Way is committed to bringing about lasting changes that improve the quality of life for underserved New Hampshire individuals and families,” said Thomas Champagne, St. Mary’s Bank Director of Community Outreach. “It’s very satisfying to see our contributions turn into programs for teens, free tax services for low-income families, meals for the elderly, and so much more. These dollars are doing something tangible, and that really motivates our giving.”

Since 1999, St. Mary’s Bank and its employees have raised nearly $500,000 for the United Way. This year, employee participation in the credit union’s workplace campaign was up 22% over last year, to include 60% of employees.

“I am always impressed and inspired by the generosity of our employees,” said Ronald H. Covey, St. Mary’s Bank President and CEO. “Giving back to the community is much more than a corporate mission here. It’s part of the culture. It’s the real thing, from the heart.”

St. Mary’s Bank has been a Pacesetter organization within the United Way for many years. As a Pacesetter, the credit union and its employees help kick off annual United Way campaigns by holding their campaign earlier in the year than most organizations. “We exceeded our goal in 2010,” said Champagne. “We’ll challenge ourselves to do it again in 2011.”
