St. Mary's Bank Donates $2,800 to Holy Cross Family Learning Center

MANCHESTER—September 13, 2012—St. Mary’s Bank recently gave $2,800 to the Holy Cross Family Learning Center to help upgrade the technology in their classrooms. The funds went to purchasing five computers to help adults with job searching, resume writing, English literacy skills, as well as other skill building activities.

“Having access to technology, especially for Manchester’s large immigrant and refugee population, is essential for continued learning and job development skills,” said Tom Champagne, St. Mary’s Bank’s Director of Community Outreach. “We’re pleased to help the Holy Cross Family Learning Center obtain the tools they need to continue offering their vital programs in Manchester.”

The Holy Cross Family Learning Center is a place where people of diverse cultures from Manchester, come to initiate or continue their education. They participate in helping to develop the Center as a place where family values are strengthened, community building is fostered, literacy is nourished, academic performance is raised, and diversity respected and celebrated. The center gives adults in need a place to learn English, time to converse with each other as well as time to begin writing English.

“Over the past two years the Holy Cross Family Learning Center has seen incredible growth, which is wonderful for a place where people of diverse cultures from the West Side come together to initiate or continue their education, but we need to be able to support that growth with updated resources,” said Sister Jacqueline Verville, Director of the Center. “We’re grateful to St. Mary’s Bank for their donation and support of our organization.”
