St. Mary’s Donates $2,725 to The CareGivers, Inc.,
to Support the Caring Cupboard

MANCHESTER, NH—April 5, 2012—St. Mary’s Bank announced it recently gave $2,725 to The CareGivers, Inc., a small, grassroots non‐profit organization dedicated to helping the frail, elderly and disabled maintain their independence and dignity through the spirit of volunteerism.   The CareGivers coordinates the distribution of food, transportation, and a personal presence for those in need. The funds will specifically be used to purchase a tracking software program for the group’s Caring Cupboard.

“The CareGivers gives so much more than food to those in need in our community—they also provide company and conversation to many who are unable to leave their homes. This support helps individuals stay in their own homes and stay connected to their community,” said Tom Champagne, Director of Community Outreach at St. Mary’s Bank. “St. Mary’s is pleased to support the important work done by The CareGivers and applauds the heroic efforts of their volunteers.”

A primary component of The CareGivers’ mission is addressing the hunger crisis their clients face. The Caring Cupboard is a mobile food pantry that provides and delivers free, personalized groceries to eligible clients every month, filling tote bags with critical provisions, including fresh produce and dairy. Last year alone, this vital program delivered 100,367 pounds of food to vulnerable neighbors in need.

“For the past 28 years, The CareGivers has helped the community’s elderly stay in their own homes, avoiding the harsh reality of premature institutionalization,” said Donny R. Guillemette, President & CEO of The CareGivers. “Ninety‐five percent of the individuals we serve are considered low income, and hunger is a very real issue for them. Many are subsisting on small fixed incomes and often have to choose between filling prescriptions, heating their homes or having food in their cabinets. We are grateful to St. Mary’s Bank for their generosity and employee volunteer efforts, as we strive to help our clients overcome hunger and food insecurity through our Caring Cupboard.
