The Front Door Agency, Inc. is the recipient of a $2,500 Community Outreach grant from St. Mary’s Bank, the nation’s first credit union.

The Nashua non-profit organization, which provides services to low-income families and individuals, will use the funds to offer financial management workshops.

The five-week curriculum focuses on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively manage personal finances and achieve financial independence.

“We believe that basic skills in personal financial management will help our clients learn the importance of planning and saving for the future,” said Carol Connor, Director of Development & Public Relations at The Front Door.

The Financial Literacy Program is offered two times each year to the community at large free of charge, utilizing expertise from several different community financial resources. The addition of a session in Spanish last April was very well received, said Connor, and the program continues to attract participants eager to learn more about personal finances.

Among the topics covered are budgeting and spending, banking services and products, elements of a savings plan, credit-debt management, and resources and problem-solving.

”As financial institution, we understand that the skills taught in these workshops will help these families and individuals work toward independence and financial security,” said Tom Champagne, St. Mary’s Bank Director of Community Outreach. “We’re pleased to be able to help The Front Door Agency, which offers much-needed support and assistance to so many in need.”
