$2,500 Grant from St. Mary’s Bank Supports Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity’s Truck Challenge

Posted On 4/17/2015

Thanks to a $2,500 Community Outreach Grant from St. Mary’s Bank, the nation’s first credit union, Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity (GNHFH) will soon be able to purchase two vehicles to support its work building and renovating affordable housing for local families in need.

The funds from St. Mary’s Bank will go toward the organization’s challenge match funding to purchase two trucks.

“In order to continue providing much needed services, we sought funding to help purchase two new-to-us trucks: one for our construction and building projects and another for our ReStore, a discounted building/home supply store that generates income that funds the building of more Habitat homes,” explained Jennifer Skibba, GNHFH Director of Resource Development. “The trucks we currently have are aging and not cost-effective to continue repairing.”
A local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, GNHFH works in partnership with corporations, like-minded community groups, faith-based organizations, and individual volunteers to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating simple, decent, energy efficient, affordable homes.

Habitat homes are built with volunteer labor and donated materials for low-income families unable to obtain conventional mortgages. Qualified families pay a monthly, no-interest mortgage to Habitat, monies which in turn go back into building more homes for families in need.

GNHFH serves Amherst, Hollis, Hudson, Merrimack, Milford, Nashua, Pelham, Brookline, Greenville, Lyndeborough, Mason, Mont Vernon, Wilton and Windham.

“The American dream has long been owning your own home, and thanks to Habitat for Humanity, that dream has become a reality for many local families,” said Tom Champagne, St. Mary’s Bank Director of Community Outreach. “We’re pleased to be able to help support this amazing organization, which not only provides appreciative families with the home of their dreams, but also helps strengthen the wider community as a result.”
