September to Shredtember: St. Mary’s Bank Kicks Off Month-Long Focus on Identity Theft Prevention

Posted On 8/29/2017
September is becoming Shredtember at St. Mary’s Bank. Throughout the month, the nation’s first credit union will promote the importance of document shredding, offer invaluable tips to help prevent identity theft, and give away three personal shredders.

From mail, e-mail, and phone scams to debit and credit card fraud, identity theft continues to be on the rise and affects millions of Americans each year. St. Mary’s Bank knows that document shredding is one of the easiest ways to protect yourself and take control of your identity.

Learn how to take control by attending Protecting Yourself from Identity Theft and Scams Saturday, September 16, at St. Mary’s Bank’s Education Center in Manchester. Shirley Bhutto—Senior Vice President, Director of Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance—at St. Mary’s Bank will explain the latest security threats and provide ways to keep you and your family safe.

Speaker Shirley Bhutto—Senior Vice President, Director of Enterprise Risk Management & Compliance for St. Mary’s Bank—teaches how to avoid scams and help prevent identity theft.

“Scams and identity theft occur at alarming rates, and the first step toward prevention is to learn the dangers, both overt and hidden, that can wreak havoc on someone’s financial life,” explains Bhutto. “Once you are aware, you can take simple measures to keep your private information just that—private.”

Get a head start on these measures by bringing personal documents—up to two copy paper boxes or two paper grocery bags (12" x 17") per person—to the class to be accepted for shredding. You will also be entered to win a personal cross-cut shredder.

During Shredtember, St. Mary’s Bank will give away two additional personal shredders through in-branch and social media drawings.

Protecting Yourself from Identity Theft and Scams meets Saturday, September 16, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Bank Education Center at 48 Perimeter Road in Manchester. This class is free and open to the public.
