Baking, biology, marine sciences, biomedical engineering, wildlife ecology, nursing, and speech pathology. These are the varied programs of study chosen by the recipients of the 2018 St. Mary’s Bank Scholarships.
 
On Monday, June 4, St. Mary’s Bank awarded $10,000 in scholarships for the 2018–2019 academic year. The credit union held a reception at its McGregor Street headquarters to recognize the 10 recipients who each received $1,000.
 
St. Mary’s Bank received 125 applications, and the selection committee chose student-members who displayed their passion for academic pursuits, their chosen career paths, and volunteer work within their communities.
 

• Alanna Plumlee of Derry, New Hampshire, will don her apron at the Culinary Institute of America in New York this fall, where she will learn to feed others, body and soul.  
• Caitlin Montgomery of Londonderry, New Hampshire, will head to Boston College this fall as a biology major, with the hope of becoming a cardiologist.  
• Edward Upton of Hooksett, New Hampshire, is passionate about marine conservation and will begin his marine science studies at the University of New England, Maine this fall.  
• Emma Roberge of Bow, New Hampshire, will attend University of New Hampshire to study biomedical engineering and ultimately work directly with those in need.  
• John Sojka of Hudson, New Hampshire, an avid outdoorsman, studies wildlife ecology at the University of Maine, Orono.  
• Moses Mokua of Manchester, New Hampshire, studies nursing at Manchester Community College after emigrating from Africa 13 years ago.  
• Sophia Dobrowski of Bedford, New Hampshire, attends Saint Lawrence University in New York, where she is a biology major who plans to become a physician’s assistant.  
• Stephanie Black of Hooksett, New Hampshire, will begin her study of nursing, with the plan to become a nurse anesthetist, at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut this fall.  
• Tiffany Miller of Hooksett, New Hampshire, studies biomedical engineering with a concentration in prosthetics and neuroscience at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
• Zachary Avery of Hudson, New Hampshire, will set off for Elmhurst College in Illinois this fall to study speech pathology and help people overcome communication barriers.
