St. Mary’s Bank Celebrates 110th Anniversary with Volunteer Challenge to Support Local Non-Profits

Posted On 1/24/2019
MANCHESTER, NH (January 24, 2019) — St. Mary’s Bank, the nation’s first credit union, celebrated its 110th anniversary on November 8, 2018 by embracing the credit union philosophy of people helping people with an employee volunteer challenge to support local non-profits.

St. Mary’s Bank exemplified the credit union principle of not for profit, but for service in their 110 Volunteer Challenge. Employees were challenged to form teams to complete 110 volunteer hours in the months of November and December of last year. All seven teams that participated surpassed the 110-hour mark through an impactful array of volunteer service supporting such organizations as the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD), CASA of NH, the CareGivers, and the Webster House. A total of 1,233 volunteer hours were completed in the two months of the challenge.

“Volunteerism is who we are,” said Elizabeth Stodolski, Director of Marketing at St. Mary’s Bank. “There was no better way to celebrate the anniversary of our founding than through our core principle of supporting the communities we serve.”

Teams were awarded a $110 donation to the non-profit of their choice with the team with the most hours receiving $1,000 as an added donation. Recipients of the $110 donations were the Adopt-a-Family Program through the Salvation Army, the NH Breast Cancer Coalition, the Manchester Animal Shelter, the National MS Society, Aubrielle's Hope in Nashua, the Moore Center in Manchester, and New Horizons in Manchester. The $1,000 donation was divided between four local non-profits including the Webster House in Manchester, Make-a-Wish, the CareGivers, and the Manchester Animal Shelter. Team participants chose these organizations with thoughtfulness and care, as team members hold a close relationship with each of these organizations, further emphasizing our passion for serving our communities.
