Manchester, NH—Manchester residents may not realize they have a slice of credit union history in their own back yard. As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, St. Mary’s Bank will be hosting a free walking tour of Manchester’s historic west side. The tour gives the public an opportunity to step back in time and learn more about the people and events surrounding the formation of America’s first credit union. “This free tour is one of the many ways we’re celebrating 100 years of service to the community,” said Elizabeth Stodolski, St. Mary’s Bank’s director of marketing, “The West side is a treasure and this is an opportunity to learn more about the fascinating historic events that led to the creation of the credit union movement.”

This 2-hour walking tour will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, October 25. Conducting the tour will be award-winning New Hampshire author John Clayton and historian Robert Perreault.

The tour will start with a visit to America’s Credit Union Museum (the site of St. Mary’s Bank’s first office) at 418-420 Notre Dame Ave. in Manchester. From there, the tour will continue to St. Marie’s Church, Lafayette Park, Monsignor Hevey monument, and Cartier and Kelley Streets.
